In 1998, Sophocles Vlassides, upon completing his studies and returning to Cyprus, chose to produce his first wines in Koilani village, his grandfather's village. In 2012, Sophocles established a new winery near Koilani right in the heart of the wine villages of Limassol. Sophocles, a forerunner in sustainability, creates his wines and cultivates indigenous varieties in 25 hectares of own vineyards in a sensitive ecosystem around his winery at an altitude of 700-1000 meters. The rest of its grapes are sourced by a group of trusted local vine growers. Sophocles together with the oenologist Panagiotis Magalios and agronomist Apostolos Grigoriou, wish to continue and capitalize upon the winery’s experimentation with indigenous varieties. Their vision is to uphold distinguished and authentic wines that truly reflect the lesser-known Cypriot wine traditions. Presenting this rich heritage to the world stands as a mission in its own right for the winery.
